When considering your dental hygiene, prevention is always better than a cure. Regular check-ups are recommended by our dentists to identify any oral health concerns before they become a problem. Seeing your dentist twice per year is the best way to prevent tooth decay, gum disease and other dental health concerns. Dental work can be expensive, so solving the problem before it gets worse is by far the best outcome you can hope for when your dental hygiene has slipped.

Preventative dentistry is achieved in two stages: an oral examination and teeth cleaning. We perform these procedures at each and every one of our check-ups at our dentist in Brisbane’s CBD suburb of Fortitude Valley.

During an examination, your dentist will examine your mouth in fine detail. They will look for any signs of cavities, gum disease and other oral health conditions. They will also observe to see if there are any problems with your bite or jaw mechanisms. Depending on the outcome of the preliminary examination, the dentist may also take photographs using dental X-ray imaging. This is done to check if your teeth or jaw are suffering from any invisible problems.

It’s also crucial to remove any stains or plaque from your teeth to prevent tooth decay and gum disease. Preventative dentistry involves a scale and clean and fluoride treatment. This procedure helps to strengthen your teeth and protect them against the invasion of bacteria and further damage.

If something is amiss following your examination and scale and clean your dentist will recommend further treatment as required. At Central Brunswick Dental Centre, we only recommend additional treatments when absolutely necessary. This is done in the best interest of our patients. Fillings, root canals or dental crowns and bridges may be recommended by Dr Lawrence or Dr Yu following your preventative dental treatment.
